The National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) describes
Health Impact Assessment as:
“a developing process that
uses a range of methods and approaches to help identify and
consider the potential – or actual – health and equity impacts of a
proposal on a given population”.
Although there is no statutory requirement to undertake a Health
Impact Assessment (HIA), the UK Government’s policy is to include
an assessment of health as part of all Regulatory Impact
Assessments and recent EU Directives mean that a similar approach
is needed when undertaking, or commissioning, an Environmental
Impact Assessment.
HLSP can deliver effective, meaningful HIAs whether to review
policy changes or as part of the planning process for major
infrastructure projects. Our partners in Mott MacDonald’s
Environment Unit› have a long track record of
successful Environmental Impact Assessment and we are keen to show
clients how the two assessments can be effectively conducted
side-by-side and inform each other.
With Mott MacDonald’s long history of helping clients take
proposals through the planning system, we can help ensure that HIAs
have an equivalent effect on decision making.
