Sharing effective practice

One of the most important purposes of the newsletter is to share examples of effective practice. Each edition will contain good ideas and innovations we have encountered during the monitoring process. Contact details are provided so that you can get in touch with colleagues and discuss the ideas which might be useful. No need to reinvent the wheel ………….

Learning in Practice

Cleanliness Champion Module in Pre-registration Nursing and Midwifery Programmes at Bell College. An e-learning module for tackling healthcare associated infections, recognised as good practice by the Scottish Executive.

Clinical Skills Bus at City University. A 12 metre coach converted into a mobile skills lab which travels to hospitals, care homes, GP surgeries etc and is enthusiastically received by pre and post-registration nurses and midwives, district nurses, GPs and care home staff.

Student Midwives caseload project at Kings College London. Caseloads enable student midwives to evaluate the impact of care and understand the importance of reflective practice and life-long learning.

Partnership work and access to resources for Learning Disability and Mental Health Nursing students at Oxford Brookes University. Investing in access to resources on and off campus has ensured students have a wide range to draw on in practice placements.


Learning Resources


Service user and carer involvement, inter-professional learning and simulated learning at the University of Southampton. An outline of the challenges and achievements for the School and the resulting benefits for students

Inquiry based and multi-professional learning at the University of Essex. Students experience a learning environment that is congruent with the practice environment from day one.

Placement learning opportunities, student buddying scheme and pharmacology provision at the University of Gloucestershire. Examples of how theory and practice are linked in the Independent and Supplementary Nurse Prescribing Programme.

A blended learning module to prepare students for entry to SPQ Community Nursing and SCPHN programmes at the University of Central Lancashire. Benefits include enhancing students information technology skills, developing their confidence and clinical and academic relationships and peer support networks.
