Health in Africa faces many challenges. With the
2015 deadline for the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) drawing
nearer, maternal and child health and communicable diseases are
high on the global health agenda.
Meaningful and sustainable progress towards the health MDGs must be
underpinned by effective health systems. HLSP’s longstanding
international experience in health systems development means we
have the expertise to assist donors and governments working towards
the MDGs.
Health systems focus
HLSP’s work in Africa focuses on health systems strengthening,
including: supporting planning processes, health financing,
management and organisational development, and human resource
issues. Another key factor in HLSP’s work is co-ordination. Not
only is it important to harmonise donor efforts in-country, but
also to co-ordinate development work across sectors and
programmes.
This health systems approach enables HLSP to engage with the
challenges facing health in Africa from HIV/AIDS and communicable
diseases to maternal and neonatal health.
Operating from our office in Kenya, HLSP Africa prioritises
recruitment of national and regional consultants, and is building
close partnerships with local firms, civil society organisations
and NGOs.
